Kay Starr is a natural born storyteller.

Kay has sung with everyone, and has many stories about it all which I was lucky to record for a defunked rock radio station years ago. She and I have been good friends for many years. I am always amazed at how loved, yet underrated she is as a singer.

Kay once told me that the reason she is not more of a living legend is because she is "rich, white and not on drugs," A pretty amazing professional assessment, typical of her worldly country charm.

Kay knows who she is, and what her fans want, and by God she'll give it to them. She always ends the night with “Wheel Of Fortune.” That's her song, don't even think about singing it!

A wonderful CD came out several years ago of a 1986 performance at Freddy's in NYC, filled with terrific stories about her career in music, which is also an important part of American pop and jazz history. Kay singing and telling stories, just the best!
